The radiator in your Toyota vehicle is essential when it comes to keeping things running right. It sends fluid to, and receives fluid from, the engine through hoses. That fluid helps keep the engine cool by removing any heat that's built up.

Types of Radiator Hoses

There are two types of radiator hoses, and they can't be interchanged. The upper radiator hose is a pressure hose that delivers the hot coolant from the engine to the radiator.

The lower radiator hose is a suction hose that connects the bottom of the radiator to the engine pump. It has a wire spring on the inside in order to prevent the hose from collapsing. This is how the fluid makes its way to the engine parts to begin the cooling process.

The thing is, your radiator hoses won't last forever. They're made of synthetic rubber, so eventually they're going to show signs of wear and tear. If you don't fix them, your Toyota will begin to lose coolant. That's not good for your engine, and could in fact lead to catastrophic damage.

How to Spot Failing Radiator Hoses

To prevent problems, inspect your radiator hoses on a regular basis. Signs of trouble include:

  • The rubber material becomes brittle
  • Visible cracks or holes in the hoses
  • Pools of red, green, or yellow liquid under your vehicle

If you notice any of these symptoms, test your radiator hose by squeezing it. It should feel firm, but not overly hard or soft. If your hose is hard, or has a soft spot in it, it needs to be replaced at once. Same goes for hoses with cracks or small holes in them, obviously.

Your best choice when replacing your radiator hoses is to go with the genuine ones that were made by Toyota to fit your model. They're guaranteed to be compatible, ensuring the reliable performance that you want. Our auto parts department has everything you need, including clamps and clips, in stock and ready to ship.
